Doing some research on a Hong Kong port holdings firm, I came across a list of the top 10 Fortune 500 companies for 2006. They are as follows:

1. ExxonMobil – United States (oil)
2. Wal-Mart – United States (retail)
3. Royal Dutch Shell – Netherlands/United Kingdom (oil)
4. BP – United Kingdom (oil)
5. General Motors – United States (automobiles)
6. Chevron – United States (oil)
7. DaimlerChrysler – Germany (automobiles)
8. Toyota Motor – Japan (automobiles)
9. Ford Motor Company – United States (automobiles)
10. ConocoPhillips – United States (oil)

What struck me is that save for Wal-Mart, they are all oil producers or car manufacturers. Incredible. But not surprising.
